Evolution of a Rendering…Joni’s LR

( photos are a bit dark…sorry)

First step…the drawing in fine liner pens- 0.05 width on rag paper, then start with your lighting and where the light hits the walls and curtains…those will always be lighter.

Next, fill in colour, consider shading and where your light source is coming from. Then…leave some whites! Don’t get carried away with filling all of the space…breathing space is important! Also, items have thickness, and cast hard shadows, so be brave!  Bold contrast and colour make the best renderings!

Lastly, use shadowing, cross-hatching, dots and folds to mimic fabric types. Lastly, sheen on floors and a .5 fine liner for lines between shadows and objects. Sign! Scan! Post!

Enjoy…let me know how if this brings you back to the drawing table :)

Yah! yah! so simple...I wish I can do it but nobody can draw better than you so you'll have to keep drawing for us (hopefully making a big profit from your skills)

Love seeing your steps in the rendering of Joni's room. You are the best at knowing when to stop and not over do.

I love your work and look forward to seeing each rendering with great anticipation! Are you coloring with markers or watercolors?

Hi Barbara...I like Copic, Staedtler pigment liners in .05 thickness, Faber-Castell Pitt artist pens and Staedtler mars graphic dup paint pens...and use rag paper...it doesn't fall apart when you minipulate the ink on the page. Thanks for visiting!

Thanks Changing Look, that is the tough part, for sure...thanks, but I don't publish too many of my mistakes :) Maybe I should more, to show how many don't work out. Sweet of you!
