Should I Paint It?

Over the last week, I have been changing things up at my studio…this is a little niche off the main large space that has great light; I use it to meet clients and have my morning coffee.

I was thinking of painting the old Ikea table tomorrow, and applying nail head trim on all 4 aprons. I just don’t have anything in that warm pine colour. What do you think? Would you paint it? If so, black, white, or warm gray?

Look for Six Objects de Vie with Albarosa from the blog Brillante next post :)

Best…Michelle

Wow that's kind of a tough one. At first I thought that I liked the warmth of the wood in the space. But I know when you want a change, you want a change. My vote would be for warm grey. I think the chairs will become lost if you paint it black.

I will paint it.

My choice Cobalt Blue. It is just paint why not to have fun and inject personality to the space.

Hi Michelle,
I was thinking to use the color orange, you know that typical chinese orange. Your black chairs would be lovely with it!
Have a wonderful Sunday finishing your table!

I am loving white now or "greige" - I would love to see it matte greige or super high gloss white.

My initial reaction was to go with a mushroom grey, but then after looking at the pictures again I really enjoy how the good tones breathe light into the space.
If you have the itch to paint and nothing will stop you, I would try high gloss eggplant or cream if you'll be showing clients samples on the table.
Looking forward to the after pics!

Love the nail head trim thinking with the warm gray.

Since I think the pine casts such a warm glow in the room I would paint just the legs and apron and leave the top in the natural wood. I would paint it black and change the fabric on the seats to something that would work with both black and the pine...maybe something with a bit of orange and gray in it. would love to see the after photos.

I would be bold and go for black, it would highlight any accessories placed on the table. have fun with it!

I really like the warmth of the wood with the painted black chairs.
That said, if I were going to paint it I would paint it a high gloss Coral. I would also change out the fabric on the chair cushions to something like Thibauts Jakarta in Coral & Turquise.

Hi Michelle, pictures are deceiving in terms of colors, do I see taupe curtains? do I see light grey carpet? Cream color on the chairs? In any case I love the idea of painting the table and put nail head trims. Medium to Dark grey could be the perfect choice but you have to decide which tone and undertone work better with the surrounding elements. Cobalt blue is very interesting and Chinese orange will be unusual, both complementing the other hues.So many great choices.
Go girl, can't wait to see it.

I guess I am odd....I like the table the way it is! If you paint it, would you need a glass top on it to spare it potential scrapes and marks from working on it?
I know whatever you do choose will be great for your space.

Well if it was me I would paint the apron and legs a pale grey. And I would sand and lighten the top so it's not so polished. More of a soft aged pine and definitely distress the legs.

The natural wood is beautiful just too polished and golden. Make it look old and soft it will be stunning with those dark chairs.

I vote for warm gray. I think the gray would make your black chairs really pop.
Of course, I also love Greet's idea of orange!

I like it just fine as is and the whole space, but I totally get the need to "scratch that itch"!

What about painting wide stripes for a modern and maybe unexpected look?

Just remember once you paint it, it will be so easy to change it again and again! Good luck!!!

found another interesting grey...
looking thought the affinity by Benjamin Moore I spotted..
AF-675 Fusion, but it will depend on your light, light in Calgary is different to yours for sure
(someone mentioned stripes, I do like the idea of stripes)

Michelle-

Love the idea of painting it! How about a high gloss grey- but a deeper grey with {more blue undertones} Will look great with black chairs- love the chairs!

Hi Michelle,

Love your site and blog and watched each of your rendering videos twice. Thanks for sharing your secrets with us. I haven't done much hand rendering since design school and forgot how fun it was.

About your table - I love the warmth the table adds to the room. Also, once you paint it, you'll have to deal with paint scratches and chipping and having to "baby" the new paint finish.

Again, thanks for sharing your artistry with us.
