Small Modern

I am of the thought lately that you should only have as much space as you use. I have a large home now, that frankly, I find difficult to maintain, as a busy person, you may think...I'll just hire someone to do the house cleaning, but really, no one can clean and fluff like you. As we get older, my design mind has been going to what I call a compound. Plumbing and wiring for a bunch of little sheds and one main small house like this one. All on property that has a slight slope, and some interest...enough for my parents to eventually land with a small home. This is the living and kitchen/dining area I dream of...just enough space to cocoon you and provide what you need, but well considered finishes and furnishings.

This was a guide for my last workshop, since I had the model built.

always been a fan of your amazing renderings....

yes, I agree with smaller spaces as I get "older".....I recently returned from a great beach house in Seaside,Florida. Most of the homes in the area are the smaller dwellings, some with the guest houses detached. Everytime I'm on vacation there I realize it's all the space most families need.

The current HGTV home in Jacksonville, Florida is another good example of a smaller home with the guesthouse concept.
Would love to see what floor plan you decide on too!

Oh I so agree on scale and size. Getting to work in monster homes on the regular and having two little ones roam my house I cant imagine keeping a 5000 or 10,000 sq. ft home in check.

I love your idea of the "compound" I hope your keeping well.

My current home still leaves me feeling like I need just a tad more space, just for me...a little studio would be perfect. Maybe I need to kick Dale and his flight sim out of the mancave....

Such a lovely rendering. (I discovered by accidentally clicking on the image the whole room revealed!) Michelle, you continue to inspire me in so many ways! Thank you!

I think for me, smaller is better. I do like space but yes, cleaning becomes such a chore. I would love just a tiny little beach house, no really it doesn't have to be big at all ..... gosh I'll take a one room beach house!!! I love the wood beam you've included in this rendering. The blue chairs are really cool. Hope you are doing well.

Michelle, Great rendering as usual. I'm back to posting again after a 2 year break. I'm looking forward to catching up with all the interior design bloggers again.
