Carport to Summer BBQ Room

DSC_0167

Like many, I have a carport…I wish it was a garage, so I could paint year round, and maybe one day that will happen. The space is smothered in light in the evening, as it’s west facing, so I always thought it would be a nice place for BBQ nights, and hanging out with friends and family. Back in May I bought really inexpensive curtains and rods from Ikea, a gallon of concrete paint, a fence panel and a couple of concrete post holders (I know there is a more technical term), then went to work transforming a carport to an eating area. The key piece was a shed from Home Depot to store all the furniture off season, and the gardening gear.

We have used the space quite a bit this season, and for the winter, I will hinge back the fence panel, and regain a place to park my car.

What a great idea! Looks cozy and comfy.

This year I wished I had a screened in porch- the mosquitoes have been awful.

Michelle, this is amazing and I am glad you put the before picture too! That shows that lots of creativity, a few items purchased wisely and a gallon of paint can do miracles. It must be magic in the evening.

Nice idea. We have thought of doing this , but we would need some kind of curtains that act like screening since we have a prolific mosquito population. Nice idea!

He loves challenges. You certainly did a marvelous transformation.

Hi,
I'm not an interior designer, in fact I'm struggling to even find the right fresh paint colours for my small home (while dreaming of tearing down walls and creating an art studio!). The photo of your carport gives me comfort, mine is similar!

Thanks for your wonderful photos and ideas. Arrived at your website and blog via a SketchUp case studies page. Do you have notes to share about the paint colours used in your portfolio? (ie: the warm wall colour of Eaglerock's DR?)

Thanks,
Barbara
