Whether exposing or cocooning you, these interiors look to nature for inspiration. You don’t have to have a tree stump as your coffee table (although I quite like that idea) to have a nature inspired interior, just one that follows the principles of good design. Look to materials and nature’s curiosities, and bring them (or elements of them) inside, marrying them with the straight lines of manufactured goods.

What do you love about nature, and how do you translate it for your home?

We went on a modern high-rise tour of homes a few weeks ago. Floor to ceiling windows nearly everywhere with some of the very best views in Atlanta.
All the units were "done." But in retrospect I wonder how to balance interior with exterior when the views are so prominent. Or is balance the right goal?
I love this post Michelle. Nature is my connection to a higher power. It brings me peace and comfort, and is humbling. It soothes, it heals and it frees.. Since I don't have quite the view of some of the photos in your gallery, my home is rich in layers of green, warm wood tones, and bright light. It is my tranquil retreat from a hard day's work.
That bed at the ocean...what a dream! Is that in Vancouver? just kidding.
Lovely images all so peaceful and elegant, like nature is most of the time. When we are not sure about a color combination we should look at nature!
Wow, you found some awesome inspired-by-nature spaces!! The kitchen with no source isn't from our blog, but it does look like a smaller version of the Vienna Way kitchen that I wrote about a while back.
I love wood -- especially when it has a lot of grain & variation in colour. We installed heritage grade walnut flooring in our loft, which I LOVE. I'm also really liking the sort of raw wood that you see in a lot of Belgian-inspired designs. And I need to figure out a way to incorporate birch trees into our house somehow!!
I also like pieces that have natural, organic shapes.
My dream home would have seamless transitions between the indoors and outdoors. But first I'll have to move to a warmer climate!! ;-)

Wow - especially love the third pic of Greece(?) and the kitchen w/the wood counters surrounded by windows. I'm partial to views to bring in nature - even if the view isn't grand. Love it when a home has great light.

I like bringing in wood in my interiors! Oak wood or walnut wood! So yes to me this is a translation of nature in the interiors that I design!

gosh- i love so much about nature but for my own home (since it's a split foyer) a lot os of our living space: kitchen, LR, DR, bedrooms- is on the second story so you really feel like you're in the trees. I use lots of greens & am constantly brining in huge branches from outside.

In my own interiors and that of clients- I love to mix, shells, coral, sea fan art, rustic wooden stools & reclaimed wood dining tables...to name some elements!
